Cosmic 5 beat ICE 5 and won grand champs....

Did ICE 5 have a deduction because on the score break down they beat Cosmic in all section by 0.05 to a total of .3 (The sheet i've seen doesn't show the deductions or final scores)

Very close either way.

@post14 I didn’t realise ICE competed as level 5. They were restricted 5 on the running order. It was a bit confusing because it looked like they were against each other. I loved it when they did their warm-up together on the comp floor. Great sportsmanship between the two teams. I agree that cosmic 5 put out the better routine. So they did deserve to win grand champs. Both were good though, just confused why ICE changed division or was it a mistake?

@post23, That's not fair. No1 should be talking about any team being ashamed of themselves. We're trying to boost UK cheer, not talk like that. They all work hard. There's decent ways of saying things without degrading each other. And before anyone says anything, no im not from ICE

@post26 I was sat not too far away from some of the parents of Bromley Gems and when 2nd place was announced and they realised they had won they all started screaming!
Cheer decorum as a parent/athlete if you have won, let 2nd place have their moment before you celebrate, be respectful of the work the other teams have put in
Then when your team get called as champions - go bloody mental!! 🎉

@post26, agreed! At a comp with them before and after asking politely, many times, ended up having to ask them to move as they were stood on/infront of the mats just taking photos and having conversations and teams were waiting to come on. The commentator must have asked about 5 times for them to move as well.

I was surprised to see ICE there, wondering why they would do a comp on this low level.
Regarding comments above I saw two stunts falls from Casablanca’s L5 team, was the front two stunts towards end of routine.
Bromley Gems seem to be improving enjoyed watching them.

I think this competition was dangerous. The warm up was a joke - we had to warm up all teams together on the main floor as there was only 2 half size mats in warm up! It might have been a cheap competition but that’s no excuse for the absolutely awful way it was run. Food ran out, no one checked wristbands all day, judges I’ve never seen judge anywhere else, merchandise stalls were selling market style jojo bows - nothing like real cheer bows! I hope we don’t go back to this competition. It’s a shame that newer programmes will attend and think that is acceptable - as they won’t know any better. They should not have allowed teams above level 1 to compete without a proper warm up. Couldn’t even do back handsprings on the warm up track!

@post39, Agreed - the warm up was ridiculous and meant teams could not properly run through things before competing. For higher level athletes, it's just down right dangerous. The sound system kept breaking too. The medals have already fallen apart (not a big deal for some, but for younger athletes it is). The venue could not accommodate everyone either. The photographer's are also charging a small fortune for 1 (out of focus) photo. 1 photo costs more than the competition entry fee!

Very unsafe, and honestly - quite embarrassing. I hope we never return.

Totally agree, they should run it like the BCA fundamentals events and just limit divisions to levels 1-3 and prep. Although warm up wasn't even really suitable for level 3 teams.

@post42, i do agree with you. Lots of high level teams do not do full runs in warm up. They warm up their stunts, baskets and pyramid on the 'stretch mat' and then just mark through on the main floor.

But if the tumble strip is not available or inadequate then not having a full floor to warm up on is dangerous. People tumble corner to corner and often tumble strips are not that long, so athlete need a full floor to warm up their elite passes.

@post44, i personally wouldn't want to warm up on the main floor. kinda ruins the effect of coming out and showing your routine to the audience and judges. If judges are watching you warm up... there will be an element of unconscious bias from what they have seen. And yes judges are only meant to judge what is in front of them etc etc.. but you cant eliminate unconscious bias. A judge has seen your warm up where maybe you hit a stunt perfectly... then you do it in your routine and it isn't as nice. You could score lower on execution for example as the judge knows you can perform it with better technique etc. and vice versa. not saying this happens but its possible. Human brains and all

The coaches were emailed about the warm up situation like 3 weeks before the arena decided they couldnt use the original room they had booked and were unable to find a suitable other venue in time and so had to deal with what they had. They gave level 2 and above teams time to train tumbles on the floor, and had squash courts open for free booking all day for teams to warm up stunts properly whenever they fancied. I felt like it was well planned for how much of a bad situation the arena put the competition under at such short notice! I spoke to debbie who runs it and she informed me that it would never be at this venue again and that is why their harlow date for next year is yet to be confirmed so they can find another venue.

And in relation to the wrist band checking, I'm pretty sure there was either 2 or sometimes 3 people on the door who were checking wristbands all day. Some of our parents got asked to wait as they had afternoon session wrist bands on and arrived early. Wouldn't have spotted that if they didnt have people checking wristbands surely?

I think for a smaller ep it is a great competition. Their Leicester competitions are 100% better ran and organised however I do feel it was the arenas fault for this competition and hope that it is resolved for next year!

For the athlete entry price and spectator ticket price you get a very good value competition. Agree we were told about warm up well in advance and Debbie did everything she could to make the situation as best she could - the judges weren’t paying attention to us doing tumbles during the open warm up so don’t think this affected our scores. We feel the judging is fair and if you ask for feedback from the judges they are happy to go through it which is great for making our routines better.we can’t wait for Nationals.

it's true though isn't it it, look at the starting line up for cheer then look at the kids that actually went, many pulled out along the year and kids had to be pulled in that hadn't originally got in to fill the places. if this was a national football team and the biggest pool of talent (let's not deny it the only two teams that compete at this level are goldstar and jc so therefore the majority of the best athletes in the country are going to be there for cheer anyways) you would be asking why arnt we putting our best foot forward. this will only happen once there is a fair and unbiased system in place and no one can blame these teams for staying clear of this until there is a better system. i applaud every kid that goes for this but it's a national team, it's just about giving these kids the experience it's about doing our best and not being a laughing stock when we step out of the mat because the kids arnt anywhere near ready for this level of competition

It’s the CDC and Rockstar machine now, if it was fair people would be jumping at the chance to compete but it is NOT! Teams also don’t want to lose athletes to CDC coaches from getting in there ears! What coaches would want to send their athletes knowing what’s going to happen! I salute them for not sending them! TS could be amazing

because some teams do not need to fall into line and work under a shady system for their athletes to be successful so choice not to be involved.

Having read all comments I can’t understand why all Scottish teams can’t come together!
In doing so creating an amazing elite team of athletes, instead people are choosing to criticise those willing to stand up & be counted.
Teams such as JC & gold star would bring a lot to team Scotland however as both teams don’t seem to be involved then why knock CDC.
Having been to comps in Scotland & England CDC without question have amazing coaching staff with a wealth of experience & success. In my opinion I would be delighted for my child when old enough to compete as part of a national team. This is definitely something for children to be proud of...why any coach would stop a child participating is beyond me!!!!
