Hi, does anyone have any advice. I’m really struggling with my back handspring. I’ve got it on the fast track. (Trampoline) perfectly. However when I try moving it onto the floor there’s this massive mental block and I really don’t know why. I’ve tried being spotted when doing the skill however I end up going over one shoulder so that’s not really an option. I know I can do it and I’ve done it before but I just don’t know what’s stopping me.
Any advice is much appreciated x

Could you try it on a mat on the floor and then once you feel confident take the mat away

You just need to keep drilling and drilling. This happened to my daughter she had it on the floor for about four months then just stopped. Keep practising you will get there x

@post1 you might be going over one shoulder when spotted because you might be thinking about trying to avoid hitting your spotter.
Get a coach you trust to spot you, visualise the skill in your head with your eyes closed, and then go for it on the floor.

Ps. Addicted to Tumbling and Debbie Love's "For the love of tumbling" have lots of resources which might help you overcome your fears. Good luck!

I agree the training should be split between the north & south of the country. If it’s a national team but all the training is down south no wonder they don’t get that much support or involvement from northern teams.

My unis rec team performed sideline at uni and sometimes professional basketball games and had a routine for half time (sort of a level 1/2 pom and cheer mix to make sure everyone could be involved safely). Juts a bit of something for everyone really, it depends on your athletes

I know a few university teams who have competitive teams, and then for those not wanting to compete they'll do sideline/match day cheer, slightly more recreational and you can teach all elements, pom/stunt/tumble without the stress of competitive routines etc.

Just wondering for rec teams, what sort of things do you do? Do you work towards a performance? Do you do sideline cheer, etc?
