Do assistant coaches NEED a coaching qualification? I need help with my classes but can’t afford to pay for them to get the qualification. I’m thinking surely a Enhanced DBS will be fine but I don’t know how it stands if I need them to help me spot tumbles/stunts.

They don't need a coaching qualification but it is always good for them to have one.

If they are an assistant- they can pay for their own qualification as it could help them in the future?

They pay for their own qualifications ! Once qualified they can coach anywhere or assist anywhere so you should not be paying for their career.

if they are paying for their own qualifications then they should be compensated for their time, a discount on fees or something i feel

I'd check with your programme director / insurance policy. If you spot a tumble and an athlete got injured your insurance might not cover you if you aren't qualified.

I agree the training should be split between the north & south of the country. If it’s a national team but all the training is down south no wonder they don’t get that much support or involvement from northern teams.

My unis rec team performed sideline at uni and sometimes professional basketball games and had a routine for half time (sort of a level 1/2 pom and cheer mix to make sure everyone could be involved safely). Juts a bit of something for everyone really, it depends on your athletes

I know a few university teams who have competitive teams, and then for those not wanting to compete they'll do sideline/match day cheer, slightly more recreational and you can teach all elements, pom/stunt/tumble without the stress of competitive routines etc.

Just wondering for rec teams, what sort of things do you do? Do you work towards a performance? Do you do sideline cheer, etc?
